weight loss

photo - one week post-opthe story continues...

11/05/02 - 11/08/02: I'm home and now I have to manage my diabetes myself and it wasn't easy to start with. I'm extremely insulin-resistant and even though I'm not eating my insulin dosage isn't bringing my numbers down. My incision doesn't hurt much (I only take my pain med to help me sleep.).

11/09/02: Saturday was a good day in Northern Virginia. The temperature was great and the sun was shining. I got out of the apartment - yay! We (mom and I) went to Pohick park and walked around. It felt so good to sit in the sun which is unusual for me because usually I get too hot. Lately, if anything, I am too cold. I don't think I've lost enough weight for that to be the cause so I'm blaming it on the anesthesia. I'm wearing my binder in this one week post-op picture so I look a little heavier around the middle - I'll have to remember to take it off before my next picture! ;-)

11/10/02 - 11/12/02: Boy was I angry on the 10th! I don't know why but I was just furious all day long for no apparent reason. Angry at the world I guess, angry that I had to do this to myself in order to live a full life, angry that I was so weak I couldn't do it any other way, maybe even angry that I wasn't satisfied to just be fat and be proud. Good thing that so far I've only had one day like that so far.

I think my emotionally uncontrollability might have been coming from the lack of truly restful sleep. So now my doc told me to take a pain pill before going to bed to help me sleep. That helped but I still roll around a lot and can't get really comfortable because I'm used to sleeping on my stomach. My hips hurt in the morning from sleeping on my sides and I'm really stiff which is unusual for me. Usually when I sleep I'm dead to the world like a rag doll.

11/13/02: My doc told me to start taking off the steri-strips covering my incision. Well, I took a few off with no problems but then one came off and the incision started weeping/draining. It's a pain to have to change the bandage a couple times a day but they say it's normal. I guess my scar will just be a little bit wider and more noticeable in that section but that's ok. I expected my incision to be even longer than it was so I'm ok with it. Heck, I have so many stretch marks what's one more line! ;-)
